In 1954, Alfonso Dawson and his wife Elizabeth Latimer Dawson opened their first funeral home in Warrenton, Georgia. The second mortuary was opened in 1961 in the neighboring town of Thomson, but for the Dawson's, that was not enough.  Their dreams lead them to the 'big city" of Atlanta.  With Alfonso's phenomenal business sense and vision, Elizabeth's grace and style, Alfonso Dawson Mortuary opened it's door for service at 3000 Gordon Road (presently Martin Luther King Jr. Dr.) in December 1965.

Our family firm has served the Atlanta, metropolitan community for over 35 years. Now, the whole family is involved with all aspects of the business, including Resthaven Gardens of Memory in Decatur, Georgia.

With the second generation of  Dawson's at the helm, the business is evolving just as the funeral industry and the changing desires of the families we serve.  The traditional church service is often enhanced or replaced with a more personalized and unique tribute to a loved one. Families  are also more budget and consumer conscience.  All of which we welcome, because we realize that as 21st century funeral professionals, we must stay informed, educated, creative and in touch with our community. Therefore, we encourage memorial and funeral services with a special touch (i.e.: memory boards, "favorite things" display tables, and memorial videos).  We also offer pre need arranging, financing and grief counseling, serving all religions and nationalities.

We Take Pride In Our Home

When you step into our mortuary, we want you to feel as comfortable as possible.  The warm colors and beautiful furnishings often surprise, and actually relax,  all who visit our firm.

It Does Not Have To Be Black......

Our rolling stock sets us apart from the other homes.  As selected by Elizabeth at the company's inception, our vehicles are painted Meridian Maroon, topped in beige.  Cadillac limousines and hearses are the preferred choice of our firm.  Alfonso decided that from the beginning.  We must admit, they do make a beautiful presentation.

The Backbone Of Our Company

Understanding the importance of a top notch, educated staff, we employ at least six licensed funeral directors and embalmers, a full time accountant, drivers, hair stylist and a mechanic at all times.

Our morticians are encouraged to continue educating themselves concerning the funeral industry so that when they conference with a family, they bring their very best to the table.  We consider ourselves small in number but mighty in knowledge and experience.
